The Tshog Thri is an important ritual furnishing found in traditional Bhutanese temples and monasteries. It is a long offering table placed directly in front of the altar, serving both a ceremonial and practical role within the sacred interior of the temple. Carefully crafted from timber and often richly decorated, the Tshog Thri reflects the deep integration of religious practice and artistic craftsmanship in Bhutanese culture.

The term Tshog Thri is derived from two Bhutanese words:

• Tshog – meaning offering, particularly edible offerings presented during religious rituals.
• Thri – meaning table, seat, or platform

The Tshog Thri serves as the designated place where devotees present offerings during prayers, ceremonies, and religious gatherings. It acts as a platform where worshippers place edible offerings such as fruits, grains, butter, sweets, and other food items as acts of devotion. These offerings, collectively known as tshog, symbolize generosity, gratitude, and spiritual merit. Positioned directly in front of the altar, the Tshog Thri forms an intermediary space between the devotees and the sacred statues or religious objects placed within the shrine.

Many Tshog Thri are beautifully painted using traditional Bhutanese colors and motifs. In some cases, the front panels are intricately carved with floral patterns, auspicious symbols, or scrolling cloud designs. Others may be adorned with patterned bronze or metal sheets, enhancing both their durability and decorative appeal.
