The lotus, known as Padma in Sanskrit, holds profound significance in Hindu religious and cultural traditions, symbolising purity, spiritual growth and divine beauty. Although it grows in muddy waters, the lotus blossoms above the surface, representing the ability to rise beyond worldly challenges while remaining untainted by surrounding impurities. It is closely associated with Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity and good fortune, who is traditionally depicted seated or standing upon a lotus. The flower also features prominently in Hindu iconography as a symbol of creation and spiritual consciousness. This intricately carved wooden artwork celebrates the timeless symbolism of the lotus, conveying a message of purity, resilience, harmony and spiritual growth.
